SirTripsALot with Siri

What you can ask

  • Ask “What’s next in SirTripsALot” and Siri tells you where you’re staying and what’s next.
  • Say “Log an expense in SirTripsALot”. Siri asks how much it was; say the amount and the currency, such as “1 million dong”. Then it asks what it was for; answer, or say “Skip”. Siri reads it back, and you’ll see it next time you open SirTripsALot. It goes on the trip you’re on that day; on a day with no trip, it waits on your phone until a trip covers that day.

These are set phrases, and Siri listens for them as they’re written. You need iOS 17 or later.

On a locked iPhone

Siri needs your iPhone unlocked for both. On a locked phone it asks you to unlock first: What’s next reads your trips and Log an expense writes to your account, so neither works for whoever picks up a locked phone.

Before the first time

  1. Make sure Apple’s Shortcuts app is on your iPhone. It comes with iOS; if you’ve deleted it, it’s free in the App Store. Without it, Siri says SirTripsALot “hasn’t added support for that”, whatever you ask.
  2. Sign in to SirTripsALot on your iPhone.
  3. Open the app once, so Siri knows your trips. Until then, Siri answers “Open SirTripsALot once, and I’ll know your trips.”

Logging an expense

  1. Say “Log an expense in SirTripsALot”. Siri asks “How much was it?”
  2. Say the amount and the currency, such as “1 million dong”. If you don’t say a currency, Siri uses the one where your bookings put you that day, or your home currency on a day with no trip. You can say its name, like “baht” or “US dollars”, or three letters, like USD.
  3. Then it asks what it was for; answer, or say “Skip”.
  4. Siri reads it back, and you’ll see it next time you open SirTripsALot. The expense waits on your phone and is added to your trip when you next open the app.

Prices in đồng and rupiah run to thousands, so if you say a small amount, like 45, Siri checks: “Did you mean 45,000 Vietnamese dong?” Say yes to log that, or no and Siri asks the amount again. Nothing changes without your answer.

In the Shortcuts app

Both appear under SirTripsALot in Apple’s Shortcuts app and in Spotlight, with no setup. From Shortcuts you can add one to your Home Screen, or run it from the Action button on iPhones that have one.

Tell us what you see

Because Siri is new, every report helps — what you said, what Siri answered, and whether the expense reached your trip. Include your iPhone model and iOS version.

Please never send passwords, card numbers, or passport scans. We’ll never ask for them.
